AGL Above Ground Level: Exhibition of Aerial Views Opens at LAX An exhibition of contemporary paintings, prints, and sculpture based on artists' interpretations of aerial views is on display at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The exhibition, entitled AGL Above Ground Level, is on view for ticketed passengers in Terminal 1 at LAX through November 1, 2004. The exhibition is presented by the City of Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department in collaboration with Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA). Stephen Robert Johns, a Los Angeles-based artist, served as the guest curator. AGL Above Ground Level (the title is a reference to the aeronautical terms used to describe the liftoff of an airplane), presents artworks by eight Southern California and New York artists who are known for their work coast-to-coast and internationally. Peter Alexander, Laddie John Dill, GRONK, Mary Heebner, Stephen Robert Johns, David Kapp, Scott Katano, and Peter Shire have captured the essence of what it is like to fly, view the world from above and interpret those sensations through their art. According to curator Stephen Robert Johns, these artists, while individually unique in their approach, are inspired by the weight-less freedom of flight; by the diverse and constantly changing landscape as it is viewed from above. AGL Above Ground Level will also be on view at Ruth Bachofner Gallery, located at 2525 Michigan Avenue, Building #G-2, at Bergamot Station in Santa Monica, California, from August 4 to September 3, 2004. A reception for the artists will be held on Saturday, August 7, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. For more information about the exhibit at Ruth Bachofner Gallery, please call 310.829.3300.
